The last date for filing Income Tax Returns for the F.Yr.2018-19 was 31st March 2020. [with late fees]. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, the same was initially extended to 30th June and then to 31st July and further till 30th Sept.2020 vide taxation and other laws (Relaxation of certain provisions) Ordinance dtd. 31st March, Notification 35/20 dtd. 24th June and Notification No.56/20 dtd. 29th July 2020 respectively.
The due date has been further extended to 30th Nov. 2020 vide CBDT order u/s 119(2)(a) dtd.30th Sept.2020.
Thus due to the current Covid-19 situation, a person can still file the Income Tax return for the F.Yr. 2018-19 (both original and revised) till 30th Nov.2020.
This is a big relief to those taxpayers who have received a notice or compliance-related messages pertaining to F.Yr.2018-19 and were in a mess as to how to file the return within a short period till 30th Sept. For those, the extended time will give them a big relief.
